East Coast In A Truck Camper?
There is absolutely no doubt that camping on the West Coast is incredible. But have you ever wondered if it's possible or even desirable to live full-time in a truck camper on the East Coast? We're going to find out together. If you don't know, I'm a Carolina boy. I've been out west for about 8 years now. I've met incredible people, made lifelong friends, had amazing adventures, and have enjoyed every second of my time spent in these beautiful Western States. But in October, I'm headed home to the land of barbecue and Bluegrass: Southern Appalachia.
Perhaps you're wondering why I would leave the amazing Prime camping and Open Country to go back to the east coast. It's a valid question, especially with such beautiful places right in my backyard. The truth is, it wasn't entirely a rational decision, but I've always tried to trust my gut and live in a way that doesn't leave much room for regrets. That being said, I'm going to try to break down some of the factors that played into my decision.
I am fortunate to have an incredible and supportive family who live on the East Coast. Everyone is getting older, and when I think about potential future regrets, there's only one that comes to mind: not fully appreciating or taking advantage of the current opportunity I have to spend time with them. It could be as simple as having a few dinners together per month without a 5-hour flight in between.
I also have a lot of friends throughout the Carolinas who mean the world to me, but over the distance and the years, I've struggled to maintain a relationship with them. I can't tell you how much I'm looking forward to catching up with those folks. Lastly, I have an unabashed love for the culture, mountains, and the food of Southern Appalachia. It's home to me, and I never had the inclination to leave because I didn't like it. I just had to see what all this vast country out west was about, and it did not disappoint.
I'm not done with the West Coast yet. I'll be back out here eventually, but I'm looking forward to exploring North Carolina with a new perspective through photography and videography.
If there are any East Coast full-timers out there who might have some insight, I would love to hear it. Let me know in the comments below.
So here we go, jumping into a new chapter with both feet. Could it be a mistake? Maybe. Could it be amazing? Maybe. We'll hope so. But two things are certain: one, we won't know unless we try; and two, this has been an absolutely atrocious fishing video, way too much yappin'. Anyway, I'm going to be making videos as I travel across the country, so make sure to subscribe and follow along.
